You are likely on the market for an unlocked Global System Mobile communications (GSM) phone. GSM is a type of digital mobile service. GSM phones are the international standard for those who may often travel to Europe or other parts of the world.
The thing to know about GSM phones is that it is not directly linked to you. Instead, this system operates using a Subscriber Information Module (SIM) card that is equipped with a unique serial number. You can put your SIM card into any compatible unlocked device and the phone will operate. Often time’s phones are locked by carriers to build a brand loyalty or to drive in more business. Many carriers claim this is necessary to subsidize the cost of the phones, which may be true in some cases, but most often phones are locked for carrier exclusivity.
